Information We Collect & How We Use It

The House on the Hill doesn’t make money from ads. So we don’t collect data in order to advertise to you. The tracking we do at The House on the Hill is for the betterment of our hospitality service and with making our client’s lodging, dining, and vacationing experience the very best possible.

In the pursuit of giving you the very best possible experience during your stay at The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast, we collect information from your interactions with our website, our reservation and booking systems, our free Wi-Fi, and our on premise television and entertainment content streaming.

How we use information we collect

Some of this information, you willingly submit to us, such as your name and email address, which we use for lodging records or to communicate with you. Other information, we collect based on actions you take while either perusing our web site, using our business office equipment, while lodging with us, and accessing our smart and ROKU television, and cable boxes. Such as what pages you access and your interactions with our reservation pages, our retail and special package sales. This information includes records of those interactions, your Internet Protocol address, information about your device (such as device or browser type), and referral information.

While using our network, and the devices made available by it, each client, guest, or customer is responsible for the safety of their own id/password while logging into any available application. This includes, and is not limited to: Amazon Prime, Amazon Prime Video, Sling, Google Play, Google Play Store, HBO, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu.

We use this information to: A) Reserve your lodging, and to communicate with you the status of your reservation. B) To keep you informed of opportunities The House on the Hill is offering, including special deals. C) And from a technical perspective to provide, test, improve, promote and personalize our Internet presence and services, fight spam and other forms of abuse, generate/aggregate, non-identifying information about how people use our web site www.thehouseonthehill and all the services it provides, including our social media platforms with all of its services.

Information Disclosure

The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast will not transfer information about you to third parties for the purpose of providing or facilitating third-party advertising to you. We won’t sell information about you.

We may share your account information with third parties in some circumstances, including: (A) with your consent; (B) to a service provider or partner who meets our data protection standards; (C) with reservation or booking vendors, with web analytics suppliers; (D) when we have a good faith belief it is required by law, such as pursuant to a subpoena or other legal process; (E) when we have a good faith belief that doing so will help prevent imminent harm to someone.

If we are going to share your information in response to legal process, we’ll give you notice so you can challenge it (for example by seeking court intervention), unless we’re prohibited by law or believe doing so may endanger others. We will object to requests for information about users of our services that we believe are improper.

Data Storage

The House on the Hill uses third-party vendors and hosting partners, such as ResNexus, for making and keep lodging reservations; for hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology we need to run The House on the Hill web site. Our suppliers maintain two types of logs: server logs and event logs. By using The House on the Hill website and all that it has to offer, you authorize The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast to transfer, store, and use your information in the United States and any other country where we operate.

Third-Party Embeds

Some of the content that you see displayed on The House on the Hill web site and our social medium platforms, are not hosted by The House on the Hill or any of its service providers. These “embeds” are hosted by a third-party and embedded typically, yet not always, on our Facebook page. For example: YouTube videos, gifs, and audio files, Twitter tweets, GitHub code, that appear within our web site or social media platforms posts. These files send data to the hosted site just as if you were visiting that site directly. The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast does not control what data third parties collect in cases like this, or what they will do with it. So, third-party embeds on any of The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast are not covered by this privacy policy. They are covered by the privacy policy of the third-party service.

The House on the Hill web site and social media platforms may contain links to other web sites. The House on the Hill is not responsible for the information practices or the content of such other web sites. If you submit personal information to any of those sites, your information is governed by their privacy statements. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy statement of any web site you visit.

Tracking, Cookies, and Analytics

The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast doesn’t track you across the Internet. We track only your interactions within The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast network and our web site www.thehouseonthehill.com

The House on the Hill does use browser cookies and similar technologies to recognize you when you return to our web site and social media platforms. They are used in various ways, for example, to record your Internet Protocol (IP) address, identify language preferences, your browser type and computer operating system, referring/exit pages, links clicked, and actions taken while browsing.

The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast, with its business partners, including Google, and ResNexus, process this data to analyze trends, administer the website, track users’ movements around our website, and to gather demographic information about our user base as a whole. We do this using the Google Analytics Measurement Protocol. The legal basis under EU law for our processing cookie-related data for these purpose is our legitimate interests of ongoing managing of our business and business development.

Finally, note that you are not obligated to accept any of the browser cookies. You have the control of the use of cookies (and can block them altogether) through your browser’s settings.

Marketing emails

The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast also uses your contact information to email you newsletters, know-how articles, webinar and event invitations, and other useful hospitality service information and announcements, but only if you specifically opted-in to receive these emails. The legal basis under EU law for our processing this data for this purpose is your consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time through the unsubscribe link within the footer of every email. Additionally, you may send a request specifying your communications preferences to our innkeeper by emailing us: innkeeper@thehouseonthehill.com Note that you will still receive administrative and transactional messages regarding your reservations at The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast.

Data Security

The House on the Hill web site uses encryption (HTTPS) to protect data transmitted to and from our site. However, no data transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, so we can’t guarantee your security. You use our web site and reservation or retail services at your own risk, and you’re responsible for taking reasonable measures to secure your account.

Business Transfers

If The House on the Hill Bed and Breakfast is involved in a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, reorganization or sale of assets such that your information would be transferred or become subject to a different privacy policy, we will notify you in advance so you can have the option to remove your data from any such new policy prior to the transfer.

Storage Periods

The House on the Hill will retain personal data on behalf of our visitors, customers, and clients, and all of the information collected by us, for as long as needed to provide the optimal hospitality services to our them.
